The University of Kentucky Agricultural Experiment Station at Princeton, Kentucky, was established in 1885. As part of its mission to serve the research needs of agriculture and rural citizens, the station has taken on the challenge of improving the quality of dark fired tobacco while keeping the nicotine content down. These images show an experimental dark tobacco firing barn exterior and interior, the product drying, and the packaging process.

Jefferson County.

Blackacre Conservancy is on half of what once was the Moses Tyler settlement, established circa 1795. In addition to a stone house and springhouse, the Tylers built a double-pen log barn in the Appalachian style in that same year. Open to the public, the conservancy maintains the unique big barn for anyone to visit.
